Fire warning after man is saved in flat

RESIDENTS living in Muirhouse have been handed leaflets warning them to be wary of the causes of fire after a man was rescued from a blaze in a block of flats.

The fire broke out in the living room of a first-floor flat in May Court, Pennywell Medway at 11.15am on Friday.

Firefighters gained access to the fire through the flat next door and rescued a 31-year-old man.

He was assessed by paramedics for possible smoke inhalation but did not need hospital treatment.

Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said nobody was in the flat where the "quite substantial" blaze took hold.

A spokeswoman said: "We had reports of a fire in a living room. There was a forced entry into the adjoining flat. A 31-year-old male was treated by paramedics but did not require to go to hospital."
