Fire shuts Mexican restaurant El Cartel

A Popular Mexican restaurant has been forced to close after a fire broke out on the premises.

Fire crews are still in attendance at the fire at El Cartel restaurant on Thistle Street.

A 999 call was made at 10.03am this morning, with three fire engines still in attendance just before 1pm.

The extent of the fire and the damage caused is not known, but initial reports suggested there were no injuries to staff.

In a message posted on the restaurant’s Facebook page, staff wrote: “Hi folks! Unfortunately we are closed today, sorry for any inconvenience”.

Nearby businesses reported that Thistle Street was closed in the vicinity of the restaurant, and that fire fighters could be seen at the site.

On its twitter feed, Hanover Street restaurant The Dogs posted: “Hearts go out to all at El Cartel.... so sorry.”
