Fire-scare plane lands safely

A PLANE with 149 passengers and crew was forced to make an emergency landing at Inverness airport yesterday after a problem with a smoke alarm.

The 737, operated by Iceland Express, was flying from Copenhagen to Iceland when the emergency happened.

A spokeswoman for Highlands and Islands Airports said: "At 4:32pm a Boeing 737 en route between Denmark and Iceland diverted as a resulted of a smoke alarm in the hold.

"A full emergency was declared. The aircraft landed safety.

"All 149 passengers and crew are well and a decision on whether to continue with the flight has still to be made."
