Finance director quits embattled Edinburgh tram scheme

THE man who drew up the business case for Edinburgh's trams has become the latest person to quit the project.

Stewart McGarrity, TIE's finance and performance director, will leave later in the year after more than five years in the job.

His departure follows Graeme Bissett, a former finance director, who left his advisory role last month.

A spokeswoman for TIE said: "Staff turnover is normal within any organisation. The rate of staff choosing to leave Edinburgh Trams is very low, averaging just one per cent over the last year.

"After more than five-and-a-half years working on the Edinburgh trams project, Stewart has decided to leave at the end of 2010 to pursue his career elsewhere.

"Stewart has been extremely committed, professional and a source of good humour throughout all the challenges faced and it is with regret that we will be losing him. He leaves us with the very best wishes for the future."
