Filmhouse celebrates work of screen giant
Howard Hawks was a born storyteller who worked his way up from assistant prop man to become a screenwriter, director and producer in the silent movie era.
He went on to become one of the most commercially successful independent directors of the age, and was responsible for movies such as The Big Sleep, Scarface, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and the John Wayne classic, Rio Bravo.

Hide AdThe retrospective season at the Edinburgh Filmhouse will see 14 of his best films screened over three months, as well as a special feature looking back on his career presented Adrian Wootton, chief executive of Film London and a long-time Hawks enthusiast.
The Howard Hawks season runs at the Filmhouse from January 14 to March 14, 2011.
