Film festival chairman to step down

THE Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) has announced that Iain Smith is to leave his position as chair of the board.

Mr Smith joined the board in 2007 and took the position of chair in 2008. He was instrumental in guiding the film festival during a growth period, and played a crucial role in bringing technology and digital initiatives to the forefront.

He said: "My growing commitments as a producer have meant my time is limited so regrettably I have decided to step down as a board member for the EIFF.

"I will always have a place in my heart for the festival and will continue to be on hand to offer my advice and support. As a producer I am always looking for new talent and there is no question that Edinburgh is the place to find the very best. I wish them every success for the future."

Leslie Hills, chair of the Centre for the Moving Image which now incorporates the EIFF, added: "We are sad to see Iain go but wish him all the best for his future projects."
