Fighting hunger at the Taste festival

TOP chef Tristan Welch is calling on local suppliers to rally around his planned pop-up charity restaurant at the Taste of Edinburgh festival.

Mr Welch, who has appeared on the BBC television series Great British Menu, is trading in the state-of-the-art kitchen at his top London restaurant Launceston Place for a plot in Inverleith Park from 28-30 May.

All the proceeds from the pop-up restaurant will go to the charity Action Against Hunger, and Mr Welch is asking for Edinburgh suppliers to offer whatever support they can.

Mr Welch said: "It's a privilege to be cooking for Action Against Hunger at The Taste of Edinburgh festival this year. People travel from across the UK to our restaurant in London but it's exciting to be able to take my restaurant to food lovers in Edinburgh."

All but one of the chefs at the pop-up restaurant will be hired locally, as will all the front-of-house staff.

Organisers hope that this, coupled with a menu using local produce such as Scottish lobster and beef and Ayrshire early potatoes, will make the restaurant – the first restaurant at the Taste of Edinburgh festival to be run by a London chef – a success embraced by the community.
