Fife women charged over Covid lockdown breach after Ben Lomond rescue

Two walkers who were rescued from Ben Lomond have been charged with breaching coronavirus lockdown regulations.

The women, who are in their 20s and from Fife, got into difficulty in poor weather near the summit of the Stirlingshire peak at about 2pm yesterday.

Lomond Mountain Rescue Team responded when the alarm was raised and helped the pair to return to the foot of mountain uninjured just over four hours later.

Police, who were also involved in the large-scale rescue operation, have confirmed the women were charged “in connection with culpable and reckless conduct”.

Under current restrictions, those who live in mainland Scotland are only permitted to leave their home or garden for an essential purpose such as work, exercise or essential shopping.

Leaving home for exercise is only allowed if it starts and finishes at the same place and is done within five miles from the boundary of your local authority area.
