Fife drugs gang ‘decimated’ after police crackdown

DETECTIVES say they have “decimated” a “previously untouchable” drugs organisation in Fife as part of a major crackdown on dealers and suppliers.

Officers carried out a number of drug search warrants in the Macedonia and Glenwood Centre areas of Glenrothes yesterday. Two men, aged 32 and 44, were arrested. One man is expected to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court today in connection with alleged offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Operation Worship is aimed at targeting and disrupting the activities of a “serious and organised crime group”, which police said had been operating within the area.

Senior officers say they have “dismantled” the operation after drug baron John Brown, 49, was jailed for ten years in December. Previous raids had seen several crime gang lieutenants charged with drug offences.

Brown smuggled heroin into Fife from Glasgow, using a network of lower-level members. Chief Inspector Derek McEwan said: “We have decimated this gang – there’s now infighting amongst them and they are no longer a threat. They have been operating for several years.

“They had reached a level where they thought they were untouchable. This is an all-out assault on this organised crime group. Locals have told us this was a no-go area, because of the level of criminality.”
