Fewer new UK houses get go-ahead

The number of new homes given planning permission by British local authorities has fallen sharply in the past year.

Only 36,411 were approved in the third quarter of 2010, 18 per cent fewer than the same period in 2009 and the second lowest in the past five years, the Home Builders Federation said.
