Festival plans are unveiled

The Edinburgh People's Festival has unveiled this year's programme, featuring a mixture of history, music, poetry, literature, lectures and comedy.

As well as tours of Edinburgh's radical past and a tribute to poet Hamish Henderson, who founded the original People's Festival in 1951, there will be music from the city's Spanish community courtesy of Gallo Rojo, an evening of poetry and humour in memory of William McGonagall and a tour of landmarks made famous by Ian Rankin's Rebus novels.

A grand finale comedy night in Gorgie will feature "five of the funniest comics in the city".
