Festival pick for top poet

THE winner of one of the UK's top poetry prizes is to be announced at the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

The Edwin Morgan International Poetry Competition winner will be revealed on August 17, just before the first anniversary of his death at the age of 90.

The competition attracted 1200 entries from around 900 poets across the world.

Shortlisted poets will give readings at the ceremony in Charlotte Square Gardens, and a tribute will be made to Professor Morgan, who was Scotland's "Makar" or national poet.
