Female bag-snatcher steals victim's cash and camera

A WOMAN was assaulted and robbed of her handbag by a female thief in Leith.

The 26-year-old victim had been working at a property in the area and left to visit a chip shop in Henderson Street on Wednesday evening.

While making her way back to Coburg Street at around 9.40pm, a woman approached her and engaged her in conversation.

The woman then struggled with the victim before making off with her bag, which contained a digital camera and a small sum of money.

The suspect is white, around 5ft 5in tall with blond hair that was tied back. She was wearing a greyish-coloured jacket and spoke with a local accent.

A police spokesman said: "We are carrying out inquiries in the area to see if anyone recognises the description of the suspect provided by the victim.

"However, if you were in or around Coburg Street at about 9.40pm on Wednesday and witnessed this incident or remember seeing a woman matching the suspect's description, then we would ask you to contact police immediately."
