Fellowship sets Callum’s skill in stone

A FORMER student from one of Scotland’s largest further education institutions has been awarded a highly regarded fellowship in the construction industry.

Callum Plews, a past student at Edinburgh’s Telford College, was awarded one of three William Morris Craft Fellowships after showcasing his masonry skills to a panel of industry professionals.

Callum, 26, who studied stonemasonry at Telford College, was the only Scottish candidate to be awarded the esteemed fellowship after displaying a high degree of knowledge in the craft.

Hosted by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, the fellowship is awarded to three or four highly skilled craftsmen or women every year.

It gives individuals the opportunity to learn a range of building repair techniques and to work with a host of different traditional building materials.

Robert Oliver, stonemasonry lecturer at Edinburgh’s Telford College, said: “We are delighted to hear that Callum has been recognised for his exceptional masonry skills.”
