Fears over wait for new road signs

Concerns have been raised about road-safety measures still not being introduced at an accident blackspot in the Capital.

Officials confirmed earlier this year that new vehicle-activated signs telling drivers to slow down when they are speeding would be introduced in Redford Road, near the junction with Redford Drive.

It followed concerns by residents, after a series of accidents including head-on collisions and cars ending up in front gardens.

The signs were supposed to be introduced by the summer of this year, but officials have said that the workload of the council’s lighting team has resulted in a backlog but that they should still be installed before the end of this year.

Colinton/Fairmilehead councillor Jason Rust said: “It is very disappointing for local residents who have campaigned for road-safety action.”
