Fears of miscarriage link to nuclear submarine base

Five women living in the same street suffered miscarriages within the space of less than a year.

The neighbours in Helensburgh say they have lost six babies in the past seven months.

They all live within a few doors of one another in the town's Collingwood Place and want to know whether their cases are linked.

Mother-of-three Jennifer Taylor, 25, had two miscarriages. She said: "It's heartbreaking to go through this, you really can't describe it. We need to know what is going on."

The women live on a housing estate for the families of armed services personnel working at nearby Faslane Naval Base, home to the UK's nuclear submarine fleet.

Ms Taylor and a second woman said their husbands and children had often been ill with diarrhoea.

The Ministry of Defence said it had not been made aware of any issues with the water supply, which it said had been tested.
