Fears grow for missing city woman

CONCERN is growing over the safety of an Edinburgh woman who has been missing for more than a week.

Officers have renewed their appeal for public help in tracing Elizabeth Brown, or Hunt, 55 – known as Betty – who was reported missing on Tuesday when she failed to return to work after a week's holiday.

Sources said this was very out of character for Ms Brown, and officers are understood to be increasingly concerned for her safety.

The last known sighting of her is CCTV footage of her visiting

the Sainsbury's store in Westfield Road, Gorgie, on Wednesday, 26 May.

Ms Brown is described as 5ft 2in tall, medium build, with fair hair and glasses. While it is understood that it is not unusual for her to be out of contact with her family for periods of time, officers said it was unusual for her to miss work without getting in touch with her employers.

A police spokesman said: "Betty hasn't been in contact with family or friends for nearly a fortnight, and the last known sighting of her is in Sainsbury's on 26 May.

"We are worried for her safety and wellbeing, and we would appeal to Betty to get in touch and let her family or the police know she is safe and well."
