Fear grows for missing pensioner with dementia

POLICE fear a pensioner with dementia last seen on a Scottish island may try to make his way to his home on the mainland over 200 miles away.

Jim Tough, 75, from Cumbernauld in North Lanarkshire, has been reported missing from the Portree area of Skye where he was on holiday with his family.

He has not been seen since 10am yesterday, when he was thought to have gone out walking with his black labrador-collie cross dog.

Mr Tough is 5ft 10in tall, medium build with dark hair but bald on top. He is believed to be wearing a cream jacket, dark trousers and shoes and he speaks with a Glaswegian accent.

He is known to suffer from dementia and is not familiar with the area. A police helicopter has been dispatched to help in the search.

A police spokesman said: “Police are increasingly concerned for his welfare and are eager to trace him.

“Although last seen in Portree, Mr Tough may try and make his way back to his home address in Cumbernauld.

“We are devoting all of the relevant resources to the search, including air support.

“Anyone with any information or possible sightings of Mr Tough are asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.”

Mr Tough went missing shortly after the unconnected disappearance of 86-year-old Alzheimer’s sufferer Annie Hickman, who was traced last night close to her Dunbartonshire home following an extensive police search over land and air.
