Faster broadband rolled out

ALMOST 10,000 homes and businesses in West Lothian will have access to faster broadband by next summer, BT have announced.

Armadale, Fauldhouse and West Calder are among 47 Scottish communities – passing 186,000 premises – included in the latest roll-out plans for BT’s next generation broadband service.

More than 5000 homes and businesses in Haddington, East Lothian, will also benefit.

The broadband can reach speeds of up to 20 megabits per second (Mbps) – more than double the maximum speeds previously available to the majority of UK homes.

Martyn Day, West Lothian’s executive councillor for development and transport, said: “Faster broadband is going to play a key role in the future success of the region.”
