Fares fair for Edinburgh taxi proposal

ONLY one individual has objected to a decision by the city council to freeze taxi tariffs.

Councillors on the regulatory committee proposed in March that there should be no change to tariffs.

They were then required to advertise their decision and invite responses.

One individual – Ron Elder – objected, saying that a 3.8 per cent increase would be in line with the retail price index and would be "easily absorbed" by customers, but the decision is expected to be rubber-stamped by councillors at a meeting tomorrow.

Appeals can still be submitted within 14 days of the decision to the Traffic Commissioner.

If no appeal is made, the fare review will take effect from 28 June.
