Family rescued from Paisley tenement fire

A FAMILY of six was rescued by firefighters after a blaze broke out in a tenement.

A baby was saved from the burning building along with three older children and its parents.

They were taken to hospital with another two casualties - a man and a woman - who were rescued from another flat in the block in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said their injuries ranged from smoke inhalation to burns.

Two fire engines from Paisley Community Fire Station were called to the blaze on Broomlands Street shortly after midnight.

Firefighters pulled the two people from the building before using aerial equipment to help the family out through the window.

All eight were taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in the town for treatment.

The fire was brought under control and a fan was used to remove the smoke from the area.

Strathclyde Fire & Rescue and Strathclyde Police will investigate the cause of the blaze.

Two men were also taken to hospital following a separate fire in Cumnock in Ayrshire.

Crews were called to a fire in a ground floor flat fire in McClymont Court, shortly before 5am.

The two men were suffering from smoke inhalation and taken to hospital for treatment.
