Family pays tribute to “amazing” man killed in road collision

Gavin Fulton, 43, from Edinburgh died after being injured in a fatal collision as he walked along the pavement in Dundas Street around 1.20am on Saturday.

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses following the tragic incident.

Gavin, an electronics engineer with Selex Galileo, was with friends from his former employer Hewlett Packard on a pre-Christmas night out and was on the pavement walking home to his family when he was hit.

Gavin was described by his friends and family as “one of life’s really good guys”, and was a keen sportsman, regularly playing squash with his daughter Faye, 10, and taking her and Mia, 12, to various sporting activities.

His wife Jill, 41, said: “Gavin and I taught our children to be road wise and stay on the pavements where they are safe.

“Mia, Faye and I along with Gavin’s family are devastated that he was not safe on the pavement. We have lost the most amazing husband, father, son and brother.”

His father Bill said: “Gavin lived for his family, he was much loved and we will all miss him very much.”

On the morning he died he was due to take Faye and Mia to compete in the Inverleith Swimming Club championships.

Gavin was a poolside timekeeper for the club. The championships went ahead with their new name ‘Gavin’s Gala’, a name that will be used from now on

A 50-year-old man has been charged and was due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court today in connection with the incident.

Officers are particularly keen to trace a man who was wearing a mustard-coloured jacket or shirt who was seen in the area around the time of the collision.
