Family pay tribute to two-year-old in fall from balcony

THE family of a two-year-old Fife girl who fell to her death from a balcony said they were devastated by the loss of a "cheeky wee monkey" who would be "sorely missed".

Emergency services were called to Fair Isle Road, Kirkcaldy, after Kayleigh Wotherspoon, below, fell from a second-floor balcony at her home in a block of flats on Friday.

She was taken to the Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline and transferred to the Sick Children's Hospital in Edinburgh, where she succumbed to her injuries. Police said their investigations were continuing but there were no suspicious circumstances or arrests.

They released a photograph of the blonde girl and a tribute from the family. It said: "Kayleigh was full of life and a cheeky wee monkey. A loving baby sister to Katelyn. The whole family are completely devastated and Kayleigh will be sorely missed."

Detective Inspector Tom Brown said: "This is a particularly sad case and our thoughts at this time are with the family.

"Our investigations are continuing and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal at Kirkcaldy. At this time there appear to be no suspicious circumstances."
