Family-friendly rentals battle

Housing campaigners have launched a campaign aimed to make the private rental sector “fit for families”.

Short-term tenancy agreements do not give families the stability needed to help bring up children, Shelter Scotland said.

More than 270,000 households live in private rented accommodation, with research suggesting the sector has grown by 98 per cent in the past five years, the charity said.

In 2010, one in six people who rented a home from a private landlord had children.
