Faldo's thanks after watch is found

GOLF star Sir Nick Faldo said yesterday he was "absolutely delighted" after his father's lost watch was handed in to police during the Open Championship.

The watch was found by amateur golfer Gordon Campbell and his wife Angela near the tented village at the Open in St Andrews on Tuesday.

The couple handed it to police at the site and it was recorded as found property.

Later that day, Sir Nick contacted police to find out whether the watch, lost by his 84-year-old father George, had been found.

The watch had been a gift to mark his 80th birthday from Sir Nick and his four children, Natalie, Matthew, Georgia and Emma.

Sir Nick said: "I am absolutely delighted that it was found and we feel very fortunate that it was handed in to the police. It has been great to be able to thank Mr Campbell personally."

Mr Campbell, who lives in Motherwell, said: "It was obvious when I found the watch that it would hold great sentimental value to the owner.

"I am really glad I have helped reunite Mr Faldo with his watch. You can imagine how amazed I was when police told me that it belonged to the father of Sir Nick Faldo."
