Fake lord must repay £1.1m

A SELF-styled lord of the manor has been ordered to repay more than £1 million after conning an art dealer into buying a fake LS Lowry painting.

Maurice Taylor, 62, was jailed for three years in March 2009 after being convicted of fraud.

Taylor - who bought the title Lord Taylor Windsor on the internet for 1,000 - tricked auctioneers Bonhams into believing the work - by artist Arthur Delaney in Lowry's style - was the genuine article. Taylor then used Bonham's valuation in a scheme to fool art dealer David Smith into buying the picture.

At a hearing in Chester this week, Taylor was ordered to pay back 1,157,300.
