Extradited man charged with murder

A MAN appeared in court yesterday after being extradited from Spain to face a charge of murdering a mother of three.

The body of Sarah Thomas, 38, was found after police and the ambulance service attended an address in Nutfield, Surrey, after a 999 call shortly after 6pm on May 10.

A post-mortem examination found that Miss Thomas had suffered a number of injuries including a stab wound to the neck.

After extensive searches of the area around Nutfield, a kitchen knife was found.

Police named their prime suspect as David Baxendale, 39 and he was later arrested in the resort of Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol by Spanish officers.

Surrey Police officers escorted Baxendale back to the UK on a flight from Madrid.

He was remanded in custody on a murder charge until a bail hearing at Guildford Crown Court on Tuesday by the town's magistrates yesterday.
