Extra time for housing plan

DEVELOPERS have been given more time to show that plans for more than 70 houses in a village in the Cairngorms National Park will not harm two iconic wildlife species.

Aviemore-based Davall Developments earmarked a site in a wooded area of Boat of Garten for 72 houses, including 32 affordable homes.

The park authority planners had recommended refusal as important species, including capercaillie and red squirrel, could be put at serious risk.

The authority voted 8-7 to defer a decision to allow Davall to bring forward more detailed and comprehensive measures

Sam Faircliff, from Boat of Garten Community Council, which backed the plan, said the village's need for affordable housing was pressing.
