Ex-soldier honoured for veterans care

A FORMER soldier who specialises in rehabilitating military veterans in Edinburgh has won a top prize.

Jason Wallace helped set up the Veterans First Point, a venture between NHS Lothian and the Scottish Government, which has been widely applauded for the help it provides.

Mr Wallace was recognised at the recent Scottish Health Awards where he picked up the Support Worker of the Year prize.

He also continues to help run the resource, which provides support and advice for soldiers returning home from action.

He said: "It's a huge honour to pick up this award and it shows the important work we do here at V1P, a service run by veterans for veterans.

"I, like all V1P staff, know how hard it can be when returning from action. We look to address any problems veterans and their families have and will support them on a full range of issues faced when returning from action."

NHS Lothian chairman Dr Charles Winstanley praised Mr Wallace's contribution, saying he had done a "fantastic job".
