Ex-Sick Kids charity chief escapes probe

THE former director of the doomed New Pyjamas campaign was never investigated by the country's charity regulator, it has emerged.

Elaine McGonigle was made redundant by the Sick Kids Friends Foundation (SKFF) last year when it was revealed the 15 million fundraising campaign for the new Sick Kids hospital was 500,000 in debt.

As the wrangle expanded, both Ms McGonigle and the SKFF complained about each other to the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR). The organisation cleared the SKFF of any wrongdoing, but it has emerged it was unable to investigate Ms McGonigle, who is being investigated by fraud police.

An OSCR spokesman said: "Employment disputes are not within OSCR's remit. We are aware of recent press coverage, but it would be inappropriate to comment on any ongoing criminal allegations, where investigation is a matter for police."
