'Evil' murderer feared being exposed as cross-dresser

A CONVICTED sex offender who murdered a female friend because he feared she would reveal he was a secret cross-dresser was yesterday jailed for at least 20 years.

Gavin Boyd suffocated his half-brother's fiance Vikki McGrand with a pillow after tying a PlayStation cable over her mouth.

A jury took under two hours to find Boyd guilty of murdering Miss McGrand in her Ayr flat on 26 August, 2008.

Boyd, who wore size 18 women's clothes and called himself Joyce, was angry because Miss McGrand refused to hand over a DVD of him dressed as a women and clothes he had loaned her, including a 300 designer dress.

Miss McGrand's body was not discovered until six days later after her worried family contacted the police.

Sentencing Boyd at the High Court in Glasgow judge Lord Turnbull told him: "You took the life of an innocent young woman. There is an evil within you that cannot be controlled."

He jailed Boyd for life and told him that he could not be considered for parole until he had served 20 years and added: "you may never be released".

As he was led away to start his sentence Boyd said: "I thought I'd get longer."

Psychiatrists described Boyd as having a potentially psychopathic personality and an antisocial personality.

The court heard that Miss McGrand had taken a DVD of Boyd which showed him wearing a red PVC skirt, suspenders, boots and a tiara.
