Events join in fun of African film festival

A SERIES of free events has been arranged to accompany the UK's largest African film festival opening in Edinburgh next week.

An Afro-Scottish poetry afternoon at the Scottish Poetry Library, a dance workshop at Dance Base presented by London-based Zimbabwean choreographer and dancer Bawren Tavaziva, a painting on film workshop and an African fashion extravaganza are all free to enter.

The fashion show has been arranged in collaboration with Noir! and Edinburgh College of Art, headlined by Nigerian designer NKWO's designs which have already featured at New York Fashion Week.

Africa in Motion celebrates its fifth anniversary from 21 October to 5 November 2010 at the Filmhouse with screenings of over 70 films from 28 African countries.

The festival has grown steadily over the past four years, from around 1,300 people attending the inaugural festival in 2006, to almost 3,000 attending in 2009.

This year's festival will also showcase films from some of the 17 African countries celebrating 50 years of independence.
