Eve to launch Tesco charity partnership

A SIX-year-old girl who is battling leukaemia was set to launch Tesco's charity of the year partnership with cancer charity CLIC Sargent today.

The event will kick off a year of fundraising in Tesco stores, offices and distribution centres across the UK which aims to raise 5 million to fund specialist children's cancer nurses so that more children can spend more time at home and less time in hospital.

Eve Ferguson, from Shandon, who is launching the fundraising drive at Tesco in Colinton, is currently having treatment for leukaemia.

Her mother, Wendy Campbell, knows first-hand the importance of having a specialist nurse.

She said: "We would have had to spend much more time in hospital if it wasn't for Daphne Chad, our CLIC Sargent nurse.

"Daphne comes round to our house and does Eve's blood tests every couple of weeks.

"It's only a five-minute job but it's the kind of thing that could take hours in a hospital.

"But Daphne doesn't just help with the medical side of things. "When Eve was first diagnosed I was quite upset but she was there to talk to whenever I needed her."

"We really appreciate all the help we've received from our CLIC Sargent nurse and it would be wonderful if all children could have access to one, allowing them to spend more time at home."
