Euro MP outraged at seal trading U-turn

SCOTLAND'S senior Euro MP has voiced outrage and disbelief at a decision by the European Court of Justice to suspend the European Union ban on the trade in seal products.

Lothians-based Labour MEP David Martin, who campaigned for the ban for over 23 years, said the move came only one day before the European regulation on the issue was due to enter fully into force.

He said: "I am hugely suspicious of the timing and the motive.

"A clear majority of citizens across the European Union are horrified by the cruel clubbing to death of thousands of seals every year. They don't want these products on sale in the EU, and that's what we voted for. We are very clear on this issue, we want to stop importing cruelty. We want no more blood on the ice."
