Eureka! Inventors through to awards final

EIGHT inventors from the Lothians have made it through to the last round of the national John Logie Baird Awards.

As the Evening News reported last month, 21 local inventors made it through to the regional finals, and now the best of them will battle 22 other inventors from around Scotland to win a business support package worth 20,000.

The final eight include Tracey Ward, who has invented a flexible saddle for horses, and Isla McLean, who created the Uloop, an alarmed luggage lock which can be connected to the wrist.

Isabell Majewsky, chief executive of award organisers The GO Group, said: "I would like to take this opportunity to say congratulations to our finalists.

"We had over 200 entries to this year's John Logie Baird Awards Programme from a variety of industries and sectors all over Scotland.

"The calibre of these entries was very high and deciding on our final 30 was not easy."

The final awards dinner will be held on 12 March in Glasgow's Science Centre.
