EU mobile call charges cut

OVERSEAS travellers will experience a drop in mobile phone charges within the European Union following the introduction of new regulations.

Roaming call charges in the EU have dropped from 35p to a maximum of 32p per minute - a decrease of 19 per cent since 2009.

Experts warned that the new regulations did not include data roaming charges. "Consumers have been paying extortionate call charges on their mobile phones abroad for too long," said Ernest Doku, technology expert at uSwitch.com.

An announcement is due next week to align UK and EU roaming prices by 2015.
