Storm Ellen: 50,000 salmon escape from Scottish fish farm after damage


More than 30,000 of the salmon were killed in the storm.
Nearly 50,000 salmon escaped from a fish farm which was damaged by Storm Ellen.
Four of the 10 pens were damaged at Mowi’s North Carradale farm when Ellen brought strong winds to the country last week.

Hide AdThe company said mooring ropes attached to seabed anchors had broken, with the pens secured by August 22 and put back in their original location on Tuesday.
Mowi said 48,834 salmon escaped, 30,616 died and 125,900 were harvested from the damaged pens.
It has sent the 4.8cm thick rope to Aberdeen for further testing.
