SSPCA rescues distressed orphan otter

AN ORPHANED otter cub has been rescued from the banks of a river in Roxburghshire.

A concerned member of the public spotted the distressed eight-week-old cub on a bank of the Ale Water, near Lilliesleaf, Melrose, and contacted the Scottish SPCA for help. Senior inspector Jenny Scott collected the female cub, who has been named Rose, and took her to the Wildlife Rescue Centre in Fife ,where she was said yesterday to be “thriving”.

Centre manager Colin Seddon said Rose would be moved to the International Otter Survival Fund on Skye.

There she would be introduced to other otters and continue her rehabilitation until she was about a year old and ready to be released back to the wild.
