Snow and ice warning for parts of Scotland

Snow has fallen in some parts of the country and there is a possibility of more on the way, forecasters say.

But the Met Office said the snow was only likely to lie on higher ground in parts of southern Scotland.

They are also warning commuters to take care on Scotland’s roads when driving home tonight.

A spokesman for the Met office said: “Wintry showers will lead to some ice.”

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings of ice for Scotland, the Midlands, the north of England and Northern Ireland.

Over the weekend the snow is likely to turn to rain across the country but there could still be a scattering of the white stuff on higher peaks.

The spokesman added: “Wintry showers will lead to some ice, primarily on untreated surfaces when grit is washed off by frequent showers.”
