Search for ‘inorganic life’

Scientists in Scotland are carrying out research to try and create life from inorganic chemicals.

Professor Lee Cronin of the University of Glasgow and his team have demonstrated a new way of making inorganic-chemical-cells or iCHELLS.

Life on earth is based on organic biology in the form of carbon, but the inorganic world is considered to be inanimate, academics say.

Professor Cronin and the researchers are trying to create self-replicating, evolving inorganic cells that would “essentially be alive”.
