Scotland's hot weather set for damp end by weekend

SCOTLAND'S summer will disappear again from Friday with an inch-and-a-half of rain and winds pushing gale-force being forecast '“ thanks to a 1,500-mile wide Atlantic storm.

After temperatures reached 27C during the week – which made north of the border hotter than 22C Porto, in Portugal – the conditions are set to take a turn for the worse.

RAC spokesman Rod Dennis said: “Road users risk being caught by surprise, with a sudden bout of unusual summer winds and sharp showers after sunshine for all this week. Slow down and take extra care.”

The Met Office forecast spells of heavy rain in Scotland from Friday afternoon with showers through Saturday, with wind gusts up to 35mph - nudging gale-force - in Scotland’s East and South-West.

Met Office forecaster Emma Sharples said: “After warm and sunny weather, the forecast is for things to turn much more unsettled for Friday and the weekend.

“An unsettled spell of weather means rain or showers at times for most.”

MetDesk forecast an inch-and-a-half of rain in the Borders and an inch in the Central Belt and East by Sunday, tweeting: “It’s a taste of autumn.”

The Met Office forecast scattered showers on Sunday and more on Monday.

MeteoGroup forecaster Paul Knightley said: “Holidaymakers should be careful. Heavy bursts of rain are expected.

“A big low pressure system is coming in. It’s a big contrast to last weekend.”
