Phil Kay: Scotland throws out 300k sandwiches a day

SCOTS comedian Phil Kay discovers Scotland throws enough food in the bin each day to make at least 300,000 sandwiches and that it’s “stupidly simple” to sort the problem.

The stand-up, who starts the video by serenading a cow, finds out that we as a country throw out 2.5 million slices of bread each day and 300,000 slices of cheese which is enough, as Phil declares, to provide “sandwiches for everyone for ever”.

A sausage-munching Phil gets some tips on how to reduce food waste by not going shopping when you’re hungry, to plan ahead and that wild garlic and leeks are growing beside waterways across the country - ideal should you want to add some extra zest to an omelette.
