Good luck on the way after bird sighting

A RARE white sparrow, believed by some cultures to be a herald of good fortune, has been spotted in a garden in Moray.

The bird has a condition known as “Leucism” which affects less than one in a million common house sparrows. In Russia and in China the appearance of a white sparrow is believed to be a sign of luck.

Linda Crowther, of Lossiemouth, who captured the bird on film, said: “At first sight I thought he was a small exotic species that had perhaps escaped from a cage, but then he started turning up in my garden.

“My husband was a bit sceptical when I told him, but he changed his tune when I eventually produced photographs.

“As for it bringing good fortune, I’ll need to buy a Lottery ticket this week I guess!”
