Flock of rare geese to be tagged and tracked

ONE of Scotland’s smallest flocks of geese is being tracked to understand the threats it faces.

Four rare taiga bean geese have been fitted with global positioning system (GPS) tags which will help experts build up a picture of what happens to them when they migrate.

The birds migrate to central Scotland from Scandinavia, but their migration route is unknown. Discovering more about the movements and habits of the population is essential for its conservation.

The tags have been fitted by scientists from the Wildlife and Wetlands Trust, commissioned by Scottish Natural Heritage on behalf of the Bean Goose Action Group.
