Fife Animal Park in Collessie, near Cupar, is open to offers, along with its visitor centre, play parks and restaurant.

The park houses animals such as water buffalo, zebras, meerkats and deer, as well as exotic birds and reptiles. It remains open while a buyer is sought.

The 10-acre site opened in 2007 and is popular with tourists and groups from local schools and nurseries.

On travel website Tripadvisor, the park is described as offering a “great day out” and some describe it as “a bit rundown”.

The sale is being handled by rural estate agents Smiths Gore, with the seller looking for offers over £500,000.

Patrick Paton said: “It’s a bit out of the ordinary but we handle mainly rural sales across the UK so we do see places like this and equestrian centres become available now and again.

“The Fife park has obvious attractions with a restaurant, shop and offices as well as the animal park zoo. It’s an excellent business opportunity.

People who like animals will have a fondness for it and it’s generating the right sort of levels of interest we’d expect from this market.

“We’ve got somebody who’s specifically interested but, taking him aside, we’re still getting phone calls and viewings and things like that, so it’s heading in the right direction.”
