Edinburgh and Stirling Castles plunged into darkness

Two of Scotland’s most iconic castles will be plunged into darkness this month to raise awareness of climate change.

Edinburgh Castle and Stirling Castle are joining global landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, in France, and Australia’s Sydney Opera House by taking part in Earth Hour on 23 March.

The plug will be pulled on the flood lights that illuminate the historic castles which look over the two cities.

The WWF event invites communities, cities and attractions around the world to switch off their lights for an hour. Launched in Australia in 2007, Earth Hour has grown to be a global phenomenon with hundreds of millions of people participating.

This year, Earth Hour focuses on the power of nature and the way we can reduce carbon emissions by using renewable energy over fossil fuels.
