Black Isle seal pup recovering after rescue

A seal pup rescued from a Black Isle beach is recovering well at a Scottish SPCA centre.

The five-week-old grey seal was found weak and dehydrated on Rosemarkie Beach, with an injury to her tail fin.

Animal Rescue Officer Clare Anderson added: “Rose, as we named her, was in a bad way when we found her.

“As well as being weak and dehydrated, she was very underweight.

“My colleague Andy Brown and I carried Rose for a mile and a half back to our van and took her to a vets for the treatment she urgently needed.”

Clare added that the seal pup was given antibiotics and a solution to rehydrate her, and her wounds were cleaned.

She was taken to the National Wildlife Rescue Centre in Clackmannanshire, where she is said to be doing well.

Clare continued: “Our wildlife team will look after her until she gains weight and is fit and healthy enough to be returned to sea.”
