English bank holiday rail delays for Scots

TRAIN passengers heading to or from England today face three-hour delays due to engineering work planned for the English bank holiday weekend.

Works planned to coincide with tomorrow's holiday south of the Border mean the Virgin Trains' service from Glasgow to London Euston, which normally takes 4hrs 9mins, will take up to 7hrs 7min, and involve a change at Nuneaton and Crewe.

The cause of the delay is engineering work at Rugby, Warwickshire, still ongoing after contributing to Network Rail's record 14 million fine from the Office of Rail Regulation for over-running its repair schedule at Christmas 2007.

Journeys to England from Edinburgh on the East Coast Main Line were affected all yesterday, and face further disruption today and tomorrow. Delays of just ten minutes are expected, as long as there are no complications at engineering works between New Barnet and Welwyn Garden City.
