Emergency services called to airport after aircraft in trouble

EMERGENCY services were called to Edinburgh Airport today after an aircraft experienced "an issue" on approach into the Capital.

Eight fire engines, three paramedic cars and two ambulances attended the airport but were not required.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "An aircraft coming into the airport had an unstable nosewheel. We were standing by but after it landed, the incident was downgraded."

Nobody was injured in the incident which happened just after 9am.

A spokeswoman for BAA, which owns Edinburgh Airport, added: "The emergency services were on standby after an aircraft indicated an issue on approach into Edinburgh. As standard procedure, emergency services were put on standby. The plane landed safely and the incident was downgraded thereafter."
