Emergency Incident: 59 year-old woman rescued from water at Ayr Beach

Various emergency services, including the RNLI and the police attended the scene at Ayr Beach where a 59 year-old woman was rescued from the water this evening.

The woman has now been taken to hospital after she went into the sea at Troon beach and was pulled out 12 miles down the coast, via road, at Newton Shore in Ayr.

Her condition is currently unknown.

The coastguard helicopter, based at Prestwick between both beaches, was able to spot the casualty and police were called at 5.15pm following reports of a woman in the water at Newton Shore, Ayr.

Two Troon RNLI lifeboats and fire appliances also attended the scene after receiving reports at around 6pm this evening of a person in the water at Ayr Beach.

After being recovered by one of the lifeboats, the woman was then handed over to the care of the ambulance service.

A RNLI spokesperson said: “At 5.50pm this evening, Thursday 28 January 2021, Troon RNLI were tasked by the Coastguard to assist in a search following reports of a person in the water at Ayr Beach.

"The station’s Trent class all-weather lifeboat and its D-class inshore lifeboat both attended the scene.

"A Coastguard helicopter and search & rescue teams also attended the scene.

"After the helicopter located the casualty, Troon RNLI’s inshore lifeboat recovered her from the water and took her to the beach where he was handed over to the care of the ambulance service.”

Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.

The incident stood down at around 7pm this evening.
